Manzanillo & Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
Manzanillo is a small beach village to the north of Santa Teresa. Here, time slows down and you can spend a relaxed vacation away from the crowds while enjoying the scenery of a dramatically beautiful coastline to both sides of your vacation home.
Despite its small size you find good restaurants in Manzanillo which specialize in fresh seafood.
In the morning, when the fishers come back from their boat trip you can also buy fresh fish directly from the fishermen. When in the evening the fishermen head out in their small boats, the spectacular sunsets on the beach are made even more picturesque.
Venturing along the coast to the north of Manzanillo you find lonesome beaches which are also a wildlife sanctuary for nesting sea turtles. Here you can observe many water birds and other wildlife, relax under palm trees and swim. The beach wilderness found here is truly unique, with old growth forest touching the beach and extending until the estuary of the majestic Bongo river.
If you want to see more people you only have to go south to Playa Hermosa or Santa Teresa. Santa Teresa has become one of Costa Rica’s most popular surf towns and you find supermarkets, shops, banks, tour agents and restaurants catering to all tastes and budgets. In Santa Teresa a surfing culture prevails and in the evening there are often beach parties and sunset sessions enjoyed by visitors from all over the world.
